With a team organized in 1860, croquet was among the very first sports played at Colby. It even served as the original backdrop for the Colby-Bowdoin rivalry, which began with a croquet match in 1869. After a decades-long hiatus, the Croquet Club was officially revived in 2024, bridging the gap between Colby’s historic past and its vibrant present. In just one year, the club has grown to more than 100 registered members, proving that this timeless lawn game remains as popular as ever.
Since its return, the Croquet Club has made an immediate impact on campus life. We are the proud winners of the 2025 Homecoming Tailgate Competition, and we are currently preparing to host a major school-wide tournament this spring. Our mission is to provide an accessible, fun, and inclusive community where every student can pick up a mallet and participate in a storied Colby tradition.
