Keeping world-class wellness and recreation free, high-quality, and accessible for our students and the entire Colby community alike
The Department of Recreation was established with the opening of the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center in the fall of 2020. Since then, we have become the cornerstone of daily life on Mayflower Hill. Our mission is to benefit the entire Colby family, ensuring that wellness and recreation are accessible to all by providing high-quality programming. From competitive club sports to personal wellness, all of our programs come with no additional cost to any of our students, faculty, or staff.
As students consistently look to “do more” each year, support for the Department of Recreation ensures we can sustain and grow our most popular programs. Your generosity directly impacts:
- Aidan's Climbing and Bouldering Wall: Funding consistent maintenance, professional route resetting, and essential safety certifications for our student staff and climbing clubs.
- Tier-one Club Sports Coaching: Providing professional coaches for iconic programs, including the Woodsmen, Sailing, and Men’s and Women’s Club Ice Hockey.
- Expanded Opportunity: Increasing financial assistance for newly established club sports and operational support for group fitness and personal training.
- Instructional Programming: Ensuring that intramural sports, esports, and wellness programs remain high-quality and free for the community.
From the Welcome Desk to the Climbing Wall, the Department of Recreation oversees a vast array of programs, including intramural sports, group fitness, and instructional programming. Support for these initiatives not only maintains equipment but also sustains the hundreds of individuals who use the facility daily.
Your support ensures our students can continue enjoying their experience here at Colby. By investing in the Department of Recreation, you are helping us keep pace with student ambition and maintain the excellence of our state-of-the-art facility.
